Title: Nature preserve
His mother had told him many stories about humans. Some had brought her to this place along with many others. They had left the place the day he had hatched, and his mother eventually died without ever seeing them again.
His mother had told him that his color was considered special by humans. When he asked why, she told him that she didn’t know. He decided that he wanted to see humans one day in order to learn the answer to his question. He chose to wait until the original humans returned, or more of them came.
Thousands of moons passed. The children of the children of the others grew old and died. He remained and roamed the area every day in order to see if any humans had come.
One day, a Healer came to him as he roamed. She asked him to stop a fight between a Cloud Singer and a young one of his kind. Curious, he asked why she had come to him for help. Surprised, she told him that he had been in the area from the beginning, and thus was respected by all.
He mediated between the two combatants. Ruminating on what the Healer had told him that night, he sought her out the next day. He told her that he would remain in a specific pasture when the sun was in the sky, and that anyone could come to him for assistance at that time. At night, he would roam the island once before going to sleep.
More thousands of moons passed. On a day that seemed no different than all the previous ones, a Cloud Singer rushed over to him. She told him that a large object was flying in the sky. It was not alive, yet it moved as if it were. As she was leading him to where she had seen it, it started heading toward the ground.
He stood in front of it when it landed, the Cloud Singer watching from the trees. An opening appeared in the object, and someone walked out of it. His mother’s descriptions flashed through his head as he realized that he was looking at a human.
The human looked at him and made a strange sound. “A shiny Haxorus!” He exclaimed afterwards. Pulling out a strange device, a type of Flyer that he had never seen before came out of it.
Hello! My name is Hearty, and this is my trainer, Miles.
He asked what a trainer was.
A trainer is a human who becomes friends with some Pokémon and captures them so that they can all help each other achieve their dreams!
He growled that he did not want to be captured.
That’s fine. I’ll tell my trainer that. When was the last time humans came here?
He said that the humans had left the day he’d hatched, and that many thousands of moons had passed since then. Hearty looked at his trainer and told him something.
“Maybe they’d been helping Pokémon escape from some type of conflict,” mused Miles. “Could have been the civil war.”
“Anyway,” Miles said to him. “If no humans have come here for that long, then this counts as a protected area. I’ll make sure that only the higher-ups in the league know about this place.”
He asked if it was possible to meet some of these humans.
“Sure thing!” Miles said after Hearty translated. “I know a few Gym Leaders who would love to relax in this place from time to time. I’ll make sure to tell them about you.”
He grunted in acknowledgement and offered to show them around the area. Miles eagerly accepted after Hearty told him.
Soon, the sun began to set. Miles and Hearty returned to what they called a ‘plane.’
We’ll return to this Nature Preserve soon enough.
He gave Hearty a look of confusion.
That’s what I’m going to get Miles to name this place. Nature Preserve sounds nice, doesn’t it?
He gave a non-committal growl.
Hearty was sucked back into the ‘Poke Ball.’
“See you later!” Miles called out to him before climbing back into the plane.
As they flew off, He wondered what his mother would have thought about this human. While he found the human strange, he looked forward to seeing him again, along with any other humans that he brought with him. He went to his pasture, feeling bittersweet that his days of roaming were over.
